Louisiana French, "an extra or unexpected gift”

The label is done in Mardi Gras colors; gold, purple, and green.

It was named this because I had extra Zinfandel in barrels in 2006 after all my blending was done. I thought it would make sense to give it more structure and balance it with some portion of my sisu (Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre). The initial blend was 60% Zinfandel, and 40% sisu. It was a wonderful surprise! Thus the name.

Today, and for the last several years, I’ve dropped the Zinfandel down to around half of the blend, and incorporated some Counoise into the mix. The resulting blend is very fruit driven, but more austere than what one would expect from a Zinfandel. The Rhones, combined with the spiciness of dry-farmed Zinfandel, creates a blend of wonderful complexity, depth, and length.
